As of July 1, 2016, a new law in California (SB 277) requires that nearly every child must be vaccinated to attend public or private school and day care, and can no longer opt out of mandatory vaccinations due to religious or personal belief exemptions (children with certain medical conditions that prevent them from being vaccinated are still exempt). The passing of this law was prompted by the measles outbreak that begun at Disneyland in December 2014. Here is a short video that explains why measles was able to make a comeback:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjFPUoIXd80 (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Based on your knowledge of vaccines, immunization, and SB 277, please discuss the following questions:

1. Provide some arguments in support of California law SB 277.

2. Provide some arguments against California law SB 277.

3. Do you support the passing of this law? Explain why or why not.

Note: Recent data indicate that exemption rates have dropped since SB 277 went into effect. However, during this same time medical exemptions have increased about three-fold.
