The Nook is a small cocktail bar with a small food menu that opened in 2005 after its owners, Malakai and Abbie, graduated from university. They decided to put their collective knowledge together and open their own venue in Paddington, Sydney. Malakai and Abbie have a vision that their club will provide a relaxed community atmosphere, with good drinks and good music. However, they operate in a very competitive business environment and feel market pressure to be everything to everyone, even though that is not what they want to be. They feel pressure from their customers to be more technologically advanced, even though they do not see any competitive advantage from it. They also feel a tremendous responsibility (legal and societal pressure) to manage underage consumption of alcohol. However, they are not sure how to respond to these pressures while maintaining their desired atmosphere.
